Alex Phillips for City Council

Biography

I was born and raised in New Orleans, a city of neighborhoods, nicknamed "The city that care forgot." My early childhood is filled with memories of playing baseball, catching crayfish, sliding cardboard sleds down the levee, and riding my bike for hours on end.

By high school my interests moved towards mathematics, electronics and music. I played in a rock and roll band that was popular with fraternities at Tulane and Loyola Universities.

I went to the University of New Orleans and discovered computers. At the time, computers were extremely large, expensive and very difficult to use. I received a BS and MS in Mathematics from UNO and moved to the Bay Area to pursue a career in Software Development.

The time between 1980 and 2000 saw tremendous growth in the capabilities and use of computers. I hired and managed software engineers working on large, complex software product development. The nexus of high technology, business economics and human behavior was fast paced and demanding. In 1993 I was hired by Oracle and moved to San Carlos, the perfect place to raise my son, Jeffrey.

In 1999 I decided that I had devoted too much time and effort to my job and that it was time to give back to the community. I have spent the last 9 years serving San Carlos on committees and commissions. This is my eighth year on the planning commission and I hope to continue serving the people of San Carlos on the City Counil.
