Alex Phillips for City Council

Service

My first volunteer community service was on Mayor Sylvia Nelson's Quality of Life Committee. I enjoyed my first experience with a San Carlos citizens committee. There were diverse points of view, but through intelligent discussion we were able to reach a consensus on a very complex subject.

As we surveyed various aspects of San Carlos as a committee, I found economic development to be the most interesting. I volunteered for and was nominated to serve on the Economic Development Advisory Committee, at that time led by Steve Watry.

When an opening came up on the Planning Commission, I volunteered and was appointed by the City Council in May of 2000. Since appointment, I have missed only one meeting, to attend an a capella performance by my son's singing group, the Quartertones.

While on the Planning Commission, I have also served on the Eastside Citizens Advisory Committee, attended urban planning training, and attended the San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Training.

I am an Ambassdor for the San Carlos Chamber of Commerce and a member of the San Carlos Rotary Club. I am currently President of the San Carlos Squires Golf Club, an NCGA associate club, originally founded in 1954. If you would like to join, we are accepting membership applications for next year. sancarlossquires.com
